What does it take?

We would love to hear from you if:

  • You take ownership of your own development. That means you deliver to high standards on agreed deadlines, respect the time of your mentor and take a full responsibility of driving the mentoring relationship.
  • You align with our values and are committed to diversity and inclusion in the tech space.
  • You have a willingness to give back to the community and share what you’ve learned along the way with the others.

What is expected from a mentee?

Be open-minded and solicit honest feedback.

Having an opportunity to get feedback from an experienced industry insider is rare and unique. Make the most of your mentor’s thought-provoking questions - they will help you look at things from a different perspective and arrive at solutions.

Taking ownership of driving a project.

Your mentor will be there to help but not be doing the job for you - you will have to do the work. Don’t expect them to be a teacher neither. They will provide you with valuable advice and guidance. The ultimate responsibility to deliver belongs to you.

How does Ampair work?

So you decided to become a mentee - that’s amazing! What now?

Choose a Mentor and Apply Online

Identify a mentor, whose area of expertise matches best with what you want to learn and apply to them by filling up an online form. We will be assessing your potential, commitment and motivation, so take your time when answering the questions. Be clear about your choice - tell us what drives you and what you are hoping to achieve through the program.

Pair Up and Decide on a Project

We will be open for applications for about a month to give everyone a fair chance to apply. After that time, mentors will review all the applications and make a preliminary choice on who to contact.

If selected, you will be invited for a call to evaluate a potential fit. During the call we recommend you to:

  • Align on expectations
  • Discuss a type of project you would like to work on during the initial period of three months
  • Agree on the timeline, structuring your sessions and a frequency of meetings
  • Discuss the end goal and think about the milestones needed to achieve it.
  • If the call goes well, you will be ready to start working on the project.
  • Kick Off Party

We will invite you and your mentor to the Kick-Off Party, where you will have an opportunity to connect with other mentoring pairs and the rest of community. You will be asked to share a couple of words about your project idea and also listen to the plans of others.

In order to make the most of the event, we will ask you to introduce yourself and tell the group:

  • what was your motivation to join Ampair
  • what project will you be working on and why
  • what are you hoping to achieve by the end of the program
  • Three Months Project Work

The decision on choosing and scoping a project belongs to your mentor and you. We expect mentors to suggest projects to you but also imagine a reverted scenario, where you bring an idea to the table. All depends on a mutual fit of interests, so it is critical that you take your time to discuss the project scope during the initial call.

We have only a few recommendations on how to structure your project work:

  • Setting up a project for three months:
The 3 month project span doesn’t mean that you have to cease your mentoring relationship after completing it. You can carry on collaborating as long as you want to. The reason we introduced an end date is related to Locke’s goal setting theory of motivation linking specific, timely goals combined with constructive feedback to achieve better performance.
  • Working toward SMART goals
With reference to Locke’s theory, we recommend setting goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-based to enhance the clarity and focus required to get the most out of mentees’ efforts.
  • Meeting at least bi-weekly
Our recommendation is to meet at least twice a month to keep the right flow of interactions. However, a majority of the mentoring pairs meet more frequently. We take it as a good sign and validation of an idea that human interactions are important, indeed!
  • Closing Celebration

After a period of hard work, there must be a time for celebration. You and your mentor will be invited to a celebration, where all the mentees will be presenting outcomes of their three months project work. We will also invite our partners and future mentors.

    End of the Program

Once you successfully finish the program, delivering on the expected quality, your mentor will provide you recommendations.

On the top of that, we will have a special reward for those making a special effort. We will select the few projects of outstanding quality and showcase them to our wide audience of on our social media channels.

End of the program doesn’t mean the end of anything else. You will still be part of Ampair’s community - as long as you want to be. That means you will have access to our events, knowledge sharing sessions and ever growing network of its members. Moreover, you will be encouraged to actively shape the community - recommend its new members, initiate events and any actions that could help it thrive and live up to its mission.
